• Loose or rattling HardiePanel on exterior walls. This is a fastener issue. HardiePanel requires 8d ring-shank nails or #8-18 by 1-5/8-inch trim-head screws at 8 inches on center at panel edges. Spacing wider than that, or using smooth-shank nails, lets the panel drum in wind. Chula Vista’s Santa Ana wind events will work loose a poorly fastened panel in two to three seasons.
